ADAMS, MARGARET — aged 87, of Lakehead Court Keswick very peacefully at the Mary Hewitson Hospital on 22nd May 2020. Dearly loved wife of the late Stan, and a loving mother of Robert, grandmother of Lucy and mother in law of Honor, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends in Keswick. There will be no funeral service at Margaret’s request.

SMITH, RAYMOND ARTHUR — formerly of Thornthwaite – peacefully in care in Chester on Sunday 10th May 2020 aged 92 years. Dearly loved husband of the late Valerie (d.2019), loving father of Alison, Richard and Michael, and ‘Gramps’ to Andrew, Ben, Josh, Laura, Rebecca, William, Callum and Angus. Advisory Officer for MAFF, parish councillor and sidesman, he loved living in Thornthwaite for 40 years. The funeral service will take place at Vale Royal Crematorium, Northwich on Tuesday 26th May. ALSTON, KENNETH — after a short acute illness, peacefully in the Cumberland Infirmary on 1st May 2020, aged 70 years. Much loved husband of Elaine, father of Julie, grandfather of Aiden and Theo, father-in-law of Bryan, brother of Barbara, Fran, Hazel, Brian and Dawn. Fondly remembered by in-laws John, Adrian, Michael, Meryl and Karen, Dianne, Geoff and their extended families. Due to the coronavirus restrictions the cremation will be family only, though if you would like to take a moment to remember him, the service will be held at 12.20 p.m. on Tuesday 12th May. A celebration of his life will take place later in the year.

HUGHES, DR DAVID CHRISTOPHER — age 94, beloved husband of the late Dorethea (d.2013), proud father of Dr John Hughes and grandfather of Emma and Alice. David lived in the Newlands Valley (1989-1999) before moving to be closer to family in North Yorkshire. He passed away peacefully at Mount Vale Care Home, Northallerton on 25th April 2020. An active Churchwarden at Crosthwaite Church, Keswick (1992- 1998) and fondly remembered. Once he moved to Yorkshire, he would often visit, during the Keswick Convention. He was also a key member of Keswick Choral Society for many years. The cremation will be private, and a celebration of his life will take place when travel restrictions are lifted. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.

SARSFIELD-HALL, ROBIN CAROL – peacefully at home in Keswick on 27th April 2020, aged 94. Daughter of Geoffrey (d.1976) and Robin (nee Clowes, d.1980) and sister of Patrick (d.1944). Carol’s father was Governor of Khartoum in Sudan from 1929-1936 before becoming a stalwart of the wider Lake District community. Her mother was awarded an OBE and Order of St John by the Red Cross for her services during the First World War. Carol’s brother Patrick was tragically killed during Operation Market Garden. Carol was an active member of the Keswick community, including at Crosthwaite Church, the Keswick Convention, Girl Guides and many others. Burial will be private with a memorial service at a later date when current restrictions allow family and friends to travel. Sincere thanks to those who helped support her during her lifetime and care for in the last few years.

FIRTH, JAYNE (née Shaw) — Greatly loved by husband Colin, family and friends. Jayne passed away peacefully in Nether Place Nursing Home on Wednesday 8th April, aged 74. Limited family funeral at Carlisle Crematorium on Monday 20th April 2020, 3.40pm. You are invited to attend in spirit only, due to the current risks. A celebration of Jayne’s life is planned for later in the year. Our thanks go to Amy’s Care and Live Well With Dementia for their considerable support, and to the staff of Nether Place Nursing Home for their dedicated care and concern. HILL, MILDRED ‘MILLY’ (of Braithwaite) — Passed away gently and quietly, in Kirkland’s Care Home, Cockermouth on 31st March 2020, aged 90. A big “thank you” to all who helped her along the way. Any donations to Oak Tree Animal’s Charity via Kirkland’s Care Home.

She passed peacefully away on 29th March 2020 in the wonderful, loving care of the sterling staff in Millfield Care Home in Keswick. A private cremation will take place at Carlisle Crematorium followed, when possible, by a service of thanksgiving in Crosthwaite Church, Keswick.
APPLEBY, MURIEL (nee Graham) — Aged 91. Beloved wife of the late Francis (Frank), deeply loved mother of Terry, Graham and Andrew, nana of Scott and Daniel, mother-in-law of Tina. Passed away peacefully at home on Latrigg Close, Keswick on Saturday 21st March 2020 with her sons by her side.
HIND, DOROTHY — The funeral of Dorothy Hind will take place at Distington Hall Crematorium but if you are in an at risk group you are invited to come in spirit not in person. A celebratory event will be held once the virus has gone.
HUGHES, RODNEY T. — On Saturday 21st March 2020, Rev. Rodney T. Hughes, aged 80 years, beloved husband of Margaret, wonderful father of Peter, Judith and Roberta and their spouses, and adored grandad of his 11 grandchildren. Faithful pastor and friend to many for over 56 years of Christian ministry. Private family burial in Crosthwaite churchyard.
