Everywhere in creation, it’s spring. There are shoots and sprouts of life. Trees are budding. Some are robed in bright blossom. The grass is growing. Gardens and fields are alight with colour. Birdsong fills the air.
But for many – across the globe and in our own homes – it’s more wintry than ever. There’s virtual lockdown, putting strain on relationships, on physical and mental health. There’s isolation, there’s fear, there’s uncertainty. And of course there’s the grim spectre of death. Many are doing amazing things, to help, to make a difference in the winter. But we’re all longing for spring, for life, for hope.
With the resurrection of Jesus, there is sure, solid, certain, living hope. Death doesn’t have the last word. One of Jesus’s friends and followers, Peter, wrote later, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
The invitation comes to all of us to join in his words.
