Keswick’s mayor Cllr David Burn sends his latest message to the people of the town:
“My wife Elaine and I were stopped by a resident over the weekend when we were out for our daily exercise. She told us she had walked to Portinscale and had crossed with a runner.
“She had moved away to comply with the social distancing guidelines and had been asked in an abusive manner whether she thought he ‘had the plague’. The lady was upset by the runner’s comments and I assured her she had done nothing wrong.
“It was disappointing to hear of this incident. Our experience has been that the vast majority of people now seem to have become used to the new rules. Elaine and I have been out walking or cycling every day and all of the people we have met have been friendly and courteous, while maintaining social distancing.
“These are very strange times but it will help if we smile and speak to each other while observing the rules which are here for everyone’s protection. Thank you Keswick for pulling together. By working together we will get through this.”
